How to Manage a New Relationship and Studying

When you enter into a new relationship there is that “honeymoon” time of dating where you just want to see each other all the time. So, what happens if you’re in this phase but you are also trying to balance your studies at The George Washington University as you work to earn your MBA in healthcare management.

Before you get flustered and think there isn’t enough time to fit everything in, we’ve got some great tips that you can make use of that will allow you to enjoy your new relationship without falling behind in your studies.

Organize Your Schedule

It’s best to start with a schedule. Taking it week-by-week is usually the best idea so you don’t have to try to plan too far in advance. Obviously if there are any big events that need advance planning, you can do so. Take a look at your assignments due that week, and then figure out how much time you need to set aside to get those done. You can then pencil them in on your schedule.

After doing this you’ll be able to take a look at your schedule and see all your free time, which is then the perfect time to head out on a great date.

Discuss Your Schedule

Now that you’ve created your schedule it’s important to discuss it with your significant other. They can’t read your mind, so they can’t know how much work you need to get done in a set amount of time. Let them know that your schoolwork is important, and you’ve got deadlines you can’t miss, but that you also have made sure to leave time for them.

Be Present No Matter What the Task

Are you guilty of thinking about your new special someone while you’re supposed to be studying? And then on the flip side are you guilty of thinking about your school work while you’re supposed to be out on a date enjoying the time spent with each other? Not to worry, we are all guilty of this from time to time. This is why it’s important to be present no matter what you are doing.

What this means is that when you schedule time to study, you focus on nothing but your studies. Then when you are on a date or spending quality time with your significant other, you mind shouldn’t be on other things. It’s about quality of time rather than quantity of time.

Breaks are Okay

If you’ve scheduled a grueling study session for yourself, don’t feel bad about taking a break and sending that quick little message. Just be sure to keep it at that, and once the break is over so is the chatting. Giving yourself that chance to take a break from studying and connect with that special person can actually leave you feeling refreshed and ready to take on the rest of your schoolwork.

It Can be Done!

Even though it may seem impossible to study for your MBA healthcare degree and be involved in a new relationship the fact is that it’s totally possible. It is a great opportunity to work on your time management skills and your ability to prioritize.
