The music business loves releasing collector items, whether it is live albums or Best Of releases. While it's hard to convince music fans to shell out for new music nowadays, diehards will always buy a new arrangement of their favorite songs. And metal master Iron Maiden is no stranger to the compilation trick.
A band with several live releases and Best Of records, its latest offering is a two-disc, 20-year nostalgia fest covering songs from 1990-2010. But funny enough, Iron Maiden's last release, 2010's The Final Frontier, was the band's highest-charting U.S. album and hit number one in 28 countries. But why slow down when you can move even more units with another ‘Best Of' CD release, right?
The only problem is that the last 20 years haven't been Maiden's finest hour. The collection's best two tracks are live versions of "Fear of the Dark" and "The Clansman," both of which already appear on the Rock In Rio live release. And while it's nice to also have "Bring Your Daughter...To The Slaughter" on this collection, this is hardly a release worth scooping up immediately. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of rockin' Maiden tracks among the discs' 23 songs, but diehards will already have all of these tracks, and sure, it's yet another awesome album cover with Eddie, the band's mascot, looking badass, but that doesn't make it a must-have either.
