Teenage Head with Marky Ramone
(Sonic Unyon)
Inspired by local gigs from the New York Dolls and the Ramones, Canada's Teenage Head was formed in 1976 as an amalgam of both bands. Their self-titled 1979 debut made waves in their homeland, subsequent releases cementing Teenage Head's reputation north of the border. They never quite broke in the states, though not for a lack of trying, and three decades later they're still cranking away.
For their first album in 12 years, they hooked up with the last Ramone standing, drummer Marky, and Ramones producer Daniel Rey, to record this concept album. The hook? Teenage Head with Marky Ramone consists entirely of vintage Teenage Head songs – only the rockers, thank you – re-recorded with Ramone and Rey. The result is invigorating, the band mixing up its trademark brew of high-octane punk, pop, and rockabilly. The ensuing din will scorch your turntable, letting us know what we missed by not embracing Teenage Head back in the day.
