AC/DC
(Columbia)
Billed as the "ultimate AC/DC collector's experience," Backtracks spans the length and breadth of AC/DC's staggering career, featuring rare songs, hard-to-find live performances and the long-awaited debut of "Family Jewels Disc 3," a DVD showcasing the band's music videos, live performances, and promotional clips from 1992-2009. The original double-disc "Family Jewels" was named 2005's "DVD of the Year" by the UK's Classic Rock magazine.
While the standard edition of Backtracks includes 3 CDs of studio and live rarities, as well as the "Family Jewels 3" DVD, the limited edition deluxe collector's set includes 3 CDs of live and studio rarities, 2 DVDs including "Family Jewels 3," a vinyl LP of studio collectibles, a coffee table book, facsimiles of authentic memorabilia, fine art lithographs all boxed in an AC/DC working guitar amplifier (available exclusively through the band's website). The limited edition set will cost you $200 but it is a pretty sweet package.
The songs in the set included some cool, obscure tracks as well as live versions that aren't necessarily jaw-dropping, but it's AC/DC so it doesn't really get any more badass or old school that that. This band of Aussies has been laying down their blues-soaked brand of bad boy boogie since 1973.
The normal version is good for die-hard fans on a budget, but it's the limited edition (with only 50,000 copies available) that will make for a damn fine present or spot in your collection, but it is pricey.
Standout Tracks: It's AC/DC, they all sound alike, and all end the same, but who cares? It doesn't get more rock & roll than this! JOSE MARTINEZ
