Miike Snow
(Downtown Music)
Two parts Swedish and one part American, Miike Snow is a collaboration between three experienced producers within the music industry. Aside from their own musical ventures together, Christian Karlsson and Pontus Winnberg have worked with large acts in the dance/pop field. Warning: name dropping to ensue...Minogue, Madonna, and Spears have all benefited from Karlsson and Winnberg's talents. Yet, their meeting fellow producer Andrew Wyatt would propel them from behind the soundboards and to the front stage with the birth of Miike Snow.
With their familiarity of perfecting albums, it should be no surprise that Miike Snow is a well developed debut. Karlsson, Winnberg and Wyatt have created an impressively polished, sophisticated album that effortlessly blends dance, synthesized beats and hypnotic drums with Wyatt's genteel voice. A great blend of fast, addictive songs ("Cult Logic," "Sylvia") and slower compositions ("Sans Soleil," "Faker"); Miike Snow is an auricularly pleasing album that manages to maintain its electro-dance thread. Miike Snow is indeed the soundtrack for Summer 2009.
