Disney Gives Barenaked Ladies the Boot

Parents, lock up your sons and daughters, the Canadians are coming (not).

In the wake of last week’s cocaine bust for Barenaked Ladies lead singer Steven Page and the group already canceling one appearance — next month’s Disney-sponsored Playskool Play Aid Benefit Concert on Long Island to benefit four children’s charities — it now appears that the once squeaky-clean Canadian popsters won’t be doing ANY more shows for The Mouse.

Word arrives today that the group is being replaced on the family friendly tour — full name: “Disney Music Block Party Tour Featuring the Playskool Play Experience” — by They Might Be Giants and others (the lineup varies from one city to the next), possibly Dan Zanes and Ralph’s World. In fact, if you go to the official website you now will find no mention whatsoever about Barenaked Ladies. The only artists currently listed are TMBG, Imagination Movers, Choo Choo Soul and host Raven Symone.

Let’s face it, parents: you didn’t want those clowns performing for your kids anyway, did you? Dan Zanes fucking rocks — keep your fingers crossed.

And that, as the saying goes, is that.
