As previously announced in this space, what's shaping up to be THE musical event of the fall (and possibly the entire year) is MoogFest 2010, a three-day festival celebrating the innovative vision of the late sonic pioneer Robert Moog. The event will take place, appropriately enough, over Halloween weekend, October 29-31, in Asheville, NC, and you can read our initial run-down right here. Meanwhile, why don't you have a sip of tasty Moog Filtered Ale?
The lineup has been vastly expanded from the initial announcement to now include Massive Attack, MGMT, Thievery Corporation, Caribou, Jonsi (from Sigur Ros), Big Boi (of Outkast), Panda Bear, Hot Chip, Nortec Collective, the Octopus Project, , Kuroma, , Jon Hopkins, Mimosa, Two Fresh, DJ Spooky, El-P, Girl Talk, Four Tet, Matmos, School of Seven Bells, Dam-Funk, RJD2, Pretty Lights, Dan Deacon, Mountain Man and Emeralds. They'll be performing in multiple venues throughout downtown Asheville, including the Asheville Civic Center Arena, the Thomas Wolfe Auditorium, and the Orange Peel.
Tickets go on sale this Friday, August 13 at noon EST so surf over to the official MoogFest.com to get the breakdown on individual day and complete weekend passes. Below is the day-by-day lineup, with the specific venues for each act tba. Meanwhile, keep your eyes peeled at BLURT for more details, including contests and giveaways, soon. Asheville, by the way, is the adopted hometown of Moog and it's the headquarters of Moog Music, the company the synthesizer wizard formed in 1963. One of the BLURT staffers happens to live in Asheville and hastens to point out that "it's a goddam happening place, yo. Come check it out. There's enough music around here to qualify the burg as a mini-Austin."
