"A Virtual Butthole Surfers Orchestra"
07/08/2008

Finale of Surfers Reunion Tour Set for Webster Hall, July 29, w/Paul Green School students.
By Fred Mills
Back in February Butthole Surfers/Gibby Haynes and his Problem frontman Gibby Haynes joined the talented teens of the Paul Green School of Rock All-Stars for a six-city tour, performing some of the Butts’ classics such as “Graveyard,” “I saw an X-Ray of a Girl Passing Gas” and “The Shah Sleeps in Lee Harvey's Grave. The tour was part of the Paul Green School of Rock Guest Professor Series, which gives some of the school’s most promising young musicians the chance to study the fine art of rock performance with music world icons. (Previous guest professors included Peter Frampton, Eddie Vedder, John Wetton, Alice Cooper, Ike Willis, Jeff "Skunk" Baxter, Adrian Belew, Perry Farrell, and Jon Anderson.)
Now, after a nearly decade-long hiatus, Haynes and the Butthole Surfers have reunited for a world tour and they are bringing along — you guessed
it — 25 students from the Green School, effectively forming, as we are advised,
“a virtual Butthole Surfers orchestra.” The tour is set to return to the U.S. after its European leg for two special
final performances: one at the Stone Church in Newmarket, NH on July 28, followed by one in New York City at Webster Hall on July 29.
The tour marks the first time since 1989 that the Surfers have joined together for a world tour. Frontman Gibby Haynes, guitarist Paul Leary, and drummer King Coffey are coming together with bassist Jeff Pinkus and percussionist Teresa Taylor, effectively recreating the band’s classic mid ‘80s lineup.
