Ettes Talk Fallon Show, J. Lewis Tour
10/01/2009

Appearing on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon tomorrow - Friday - during a quick detour from the Lewis road trek. No thumbsuckers allowed.
By Fred Mills
It's not every day we can turn on the TV and see some of our friends on it - and come to think of it, our big screen plasma set hasn't arrived yet. We're stuck staring at this 12-inch black-and-white Motorola! Where's that damn Geek Squad, anyway? But maybe it'll arrive in time to watch Late Night With Jimmy Fallon tomorrow night (NBC, 12:30 EST), because we wanna see our pals The Ettes kick out some jams. They'll be in good company, too, as the main guest for Fallon is filmmaker and actress Drew Barrymore, talking about her new rollerderby flick Whip It.
As it turns out the Ettes also have a song in the film's soundtrack, so there's your connection. Nice to have good fans in high places.
We caught up with Ettes frontwoman Coco Hames from the road - Hames also blogs for BLURT, and you don't want to miss her most recent installments - to get the scoop on the Fallon and show and their current tour (for their new album Do You Want Power, reviewed here) opening for Juliette Lewis. Both Lewis and the Ettes are featured in the new issue of BLURT, by the way, hitting newsstands any day now.
BLURT: How did you wind up getting the gig to do the Fallon show?
HAMES: I'm pretty sure that was all Drew. We just got back from the premiere for Whip It, her directorial debut about roller derby starring Ellen Page. We're on the soundtrack, which was released Tuesday, same day as our new album! The movie is awesome, I think I was laughing and clapping through the whole screening, and I wasn't the only one!
What are you planning on playing, and what's the first thing you want to say to Fallon when you meet him?
I will probably just start giggling. His trademark giggle move is mine too. We will obviously get a lot accomplished together. We'll probably play "Crown of Age", the song that's featured on the Whip It soundtrack, as Drew's the guest tomorrow and Jimmy Fallon is in it, too.
Have you, Poni or Jem ever done one of Fallon's Saturday Night Live characters?
I like all the ones where he wears a beard. No wait, hands down, Andy Gibb.
You started the Juliette Lewis tour this past week - what has gone down on that so far?
Ohhhh... A lady never tells... We are having so much fun. She's the real deal, in case you haven't figured that from her intensely awesome performance skills on screen. It's literally been the most fun tour ever.
What would Juliette say if some BLURT editor asked her to suck his thumb like in "Cape Fear"?
She's very, very cool, but I don't know. She's small but she's fast. I dare you. At your own risk, anonymous Blurt editor...
