On September 18, 2008 Sigur Rós recorded an AOL Spinner Interface session in NYC, the first live session of its kind for the band. The session debuts today, Friday, June 19th.
Supporting then-new Flood-produced album Med sud i eyrum vid spilum endalaust, the band played four songs: "Vid Spilum Endalaust", "Fljotavik", "Inni Mer Syngur Vitleysingur", and "Illgresi".
Meanwhile, the band's handlers don't want you to forget the recently released Med sud í eyrum vid spilum endalaust Deluxe Edition. The deluxe edition is a unique document of the creation of Sigur Rós' fifth album in film, photography and music. Given unprecedented access to the final stages of the making and release of the group's new album, photographer Eva Vermandel and film-maker Nicholas Abrahams created an intimate and revealing portrait of the Icelandic quartet at work on their most immediate record to date. The deluxe edition includes:
- Med sud I eyrum vid spilum endalaust CD
- Vid spilum endalaust DVD
- 200-page book full of color large format fine art photography
- Unique and exclusive 16mm film strip taken from the "Gobbledigook" video
- DVD content includes: Vid spilum endalaust, Ára bátur at Abbey Road and Gobbledigook video
It'll set ya back a sweet $79.98.
In other Sigur Rós' band member news, lead singer Jón Pór Birgisson and his partner Alex Somers' artistic collaboration under the moniker Riceboy Sleeps will be releasing a self-titled album on July 21st via XL Recordings. The early fruits of this collaboration surfaced in physical form for the first time a few months back with the track "Happiness" on the Dark Was The Night Red Hot compilation.
