Chuck Prophet Feelin’ Slightly Swine-y

Stuck in Mexico with those surgical mask blues again...

By Blurt Staff

Chuck Prophet mentioned to friends and Fellow Travelers early this year that he intended to make a "political album for non-political people," To this end he went, "a couple thousand feet above Denver to see what I can see." Recording high up in Mexico City things went a little...well, shall we say, haywire.

Amid the pandemic paranoia and 6.4 earthquakes Prophet soldiered on, wrapping up an album and dealing with the indignity of having to wear a blue surgical mask just to fit in.

Power outages come and go and hard drives have sizzled but Prophet calls the work, "far better than I had even hoped for." Early listens say he might be right - he's gone for a live-in-the-studio feel rather than the more mannered and layered feel of his last couple of outings.

"What were you doing when the plague came and the world cracked in two? I was in Mexico City eating little tacos on a picnic table and trying to count the green Beetle taxi cabs. It's a funny world -- Weird and then some."

The as yet untitled album will be out this fall on Yep Roc Records.
