Season 2, Vol. 1 + Season 2 - Staying The Courses
by Sarah Silverman Program + Bush
(Comedy Central, 132 mins/220 mins)
Oh Sarah Silverman, you icon of beauty and puerility-you make manchildren around the world fall in love with you, then wonder if they're gay for loving a tomboy with hirsute forearms. Alas, the closest they'll get to you without traipsing into dangerously psycho territory is to buy and subsequently wear out the DVD sets of your TV show. Would that we could join you on Cookie Party and win your favor, or cockblock God when you give him one more try. At least we can pretend, and continue to revel in the genius work that is not so much just you, but a collaboration with comic geniuses like director/co-creator Rob Schrab (Twigger's Holiday, Heat Vision and Jack), writer/co-creator Dan Harmon (HV&J, Acceptable TV) and let's not forget comedians Brian Posehn and Steve Agee. For the SSP to work, it must be a group effort that doesn't necessarily revolve around you. Now we see you and the show for who/what you/it really are/is, and must now spread the love around.
Oh Lil' Bush, you cathartic little time capsule-you make us fall in love with you, then wonder how long this show will remain relevant once George W. Bush becomes a relic/dirty little secret a la Richard Nixon. While it's good for some yuks now, once your real-life (biologically) grown-up self flies south with the other lame ducks, you won't be so funny. And actually, it's hard to laugh at you now, cause the underlying theme of each episode isn't so much hijinks committed by little scamps as it is high crimes committed against human beings. Sorry, little guy. But thanks for the temporary reprieve from reality.
Special features: Silverman: ComicCon 2007 panel, digital shorts, behind the scenes, commentary. Bush: "My Lil' Bush" music video, custom animated shorts and animatics, commentary. RANDY HARWARD
